Is metal fabrication the same as welding? There’s some confusion because while welding is often a part of the metal fabrication process, not all metal fabrication includes welding. At SMF, we offer the full array of metal fabrication services, including welding as well as many other processes. For more, call us at 309-432-2586 (Illinois) or 864-226-0470 (South Carolina).
The term “metal fabrication” is a broad term. It includes the entire process of creating metal parts and products. The metal fabrication processes SMF performs include:
Welding is a technique for joining two or more metal pieces together. There are many different techniques. Two of the most common are TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) and MIG (Metal Insert Gas), but there are others, including arc welding, spot welding and laser welding.
Welding is often an integral part of metal fabrication because it allows metal parts to be joined to create a stable piece. However, that is not the only technique we use. Other processes include shaping, cutting and assembling through mechanical means.
